“The 2018 Top Operator rankings are based on data from the last two complete fiscal years: fiscal 2017, in whatever month it ended,“The 2018 Top Operator rankings are based on data from the last two complete fiscal years: fiscal 2017, in whatever month it ended, and the previous year,” said executive director Robert Bell. “As the industry press has reported, those were the beginning of toughtimes for GEO satellite operators, as the explosive growth of HTS capacity coincided with market disruption for broadcastdistribution. The same trend has challenged top-line revenues for teleport operators, with 50% reporting year-over-year revenuedeclines. Resale of satellite capacity is a low-margin business for most operators, however, which significantly limits the impact ofPage | 2that decline on EBITDA. But the decline has led us to reduce the number of companies covered by the Top Operators lists to 20 on aglobal basis, 15 for independent teleport operators and 10 for the fastest-growing operators.”
“To be counted among the top teleport operators in the world says a lot about the resolve of our people. The global KuBand VSAT industry has certainly experienced head winds over the last few years, but GDS has weathered the stormthrough creativity, passion, innovation, and tenacity. We also are very fortunate to have developed some greatrelationships with the best customers and partners in the industry. We are in no way satisfied with just making this list, however, so GDS is working with our customers and our partners to change the game again in 2019”.
